Google Search Technique
Many hair salons and hairdressers, particularly when starting a business may not have a website, but maybe (or should be) listed in NZ online directories, Yellow Pages, and other web properties such as business listings, forums, article directories, press release sites, blogs, Social Media (Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, etc) Google Maps, and Google Places. You can either search within those web properties, starting from a regular search. Or do a Google advanced search, based on common contact terms like "telephone", "phone", "contact", along with core terms, e.g. hair salon, beauty, studio, professional, GHD, Cloud Nine, straightener, hairdresser, etc. Also you can restrict searches within NZ websites like this: [site:.co.nz hair salon OR hairdressers "phone" "telephone" "contact"]. This produces this NZ hair salon advanced search (click to view mainly directories - and maybe search further, and maybe click on Maps above the results). Occasionally Google's PPC ads (from Adwords) might display (query dependent), which is an additional source of contact information.

More salons? |
To produce less but targeted search results, then add or subtract other terms, e.g. by adding cities, e.g. Rotorua, product names, area phone numbers, etc, for further filtering. Or simply start with a site:.co.nz intitle:salon search (using intitle Google operator),which mainly list salon websites first. Then further refine with [site:.co.nz intitle:Wellington salon OR hairdresser "telephone" "phone" "address"]. This usually shows regional sites listed in directories (Notably finda.co.nz. for Wellington) with the core terms in the search results title and secondary terms (of which more can be added, e.g. GHD, as noted above) generally in the text body descriptions of those sites. Quotes "" are used to isolate the website's body text from each other and from their titles. Image by Michal Marcol.
The more you filter your queries, the more the results become focused and relevant, and often significantly less (hopefully faster and easier to browse). But of course you need suitably contact those businesses to check if products are currently available. But generally start with a basic Google search that you are comfortable with...

Maybe also include the "more search tools" on the L/H side of Google's results. In an earlier article I describe using Google search tips for searching pdf manuals. My computer blog describes a comprehensive walk-through for online research by searching with advanced Google Operators for different types of website domains and document formats, including a series of pdf tips.
NZ online stores and stockists offer a sufficient range of hair straighteners, but you may want to read reviews and buying tips online, and talk to family and friends to purchase a iron that hopefully suits you. If used carefully, and with suitable accessories and products (e.g. balms, hair gels, sprays, shampoos, etc) then you can easily achieve a satisfactory hair style result.
Also be careful when searching online, as you may come across a website selling fake hair irons - often GHD. Prices are usually significantly lower than genuine - which I have seen for NZ URL listed web sites. Often with no images of NZ locations, people (e.g. testimonials, employees, management, etc), and even with spelling mistakes - for the city of Auckland. So check with the website checker on the GHD official site. Also email the suspect site with queries about store/region location, such as if real irons and if they are certified to sell. Or perhaps do a domain "Whois" search, to try validate the website host location, and hence authenticity of their products. I explain how to analyze for counterfeit websites using Whois and Google Places/Maps. Image of Plastic Dolls by ElRincon.
