Information Search for Hair Straighteners

If searching online for about any information for a hair flattening iron, for example related to New Zealand, many use Google, but using specialist search engines can yield diverse information that may well be relevant based on your intent or specific search query. This can include informational, transactional, and perhaps navigational related searches that you perform. Hence a multi dimensional topic based engine can be useful for a quick glance of about any information for a search. Also one can further search - and research by applying features of such search engines.

Deeper Web is a search platform that can instantly display across and deep if need be, results from a variety of authorative and trustworthy online sources. Want to know current metrics or statistics?, or news items, resources, answers, or popular search brands, images, videos, for your hair straightener? Then Deeper Web displays a range of such categorical results to help produce current insights for your query.

Hair Straightener NZ Resource Information - Deeper Web
(Click for larger view)

If we search for NZ hair straighteners, standard results are displayed, a relevancy search cloud, Answers (from Yahoo), Metrics (consumer reports, statistical/numerical data), Resources (e.g. whitepapers, pdf research files, government agencies, etc), Wikipedia results, and Blog results. Also across the menu bar, icons for those resources, and links to images, maps, and video results, amongst others. So it is possible to get a round up of useful information, including that you may not have thought of. However may also get information not relevant or useful, unless if you further specify your search query, e.g with a brand name such as GHD, or region name, or company name. Because hair straightening also refers to chemical hair applications as well, hence such results may appear.

Cloud, Answers, and Resource Results - Deeper Web

The cloud results, and it's selective search options can produce quick insight of relevancy, popularity, or importance for your query. For example, GHD stands out, and other products or terms are listed, such as mk4, kavanagh, salon, and hairdresser. This demonstrates those terms could be at least popular, and perhaps further useful for more information. Clicking on those terms (changes to green), displays further search results. Clicking on the red - minus portion will remove that term to yield suitable or targeted results if needed. Also, as noted earlier, such terms may be new, unknown, or forgotten by yourself. Thus you may find what you may never have, unless if you are quite knowledgeable about hair straighteners, their brands, suppliers, and related products and services, such as hair stylists, salons, or suppliers.

Also can quickly evaluate what brands, are popular (or not if reports of negative reviews) in other regions, or countries, for similar search queries. Perhaps discover what products or services are popular (and possibly useful) to you. The brand CHI (currently) appear to popular in Canada as are Brazilian, Keratin, and Zerran - should those brands or products interest you. Current UK cloud results indicates GHD, Babyliss, Wahl, and Argos (a UK retailer similar to our Harvey Normans). Further search indicates Nicky Clarke, a popular brand and salons in UK I think.

Overall their may be a emerging or established trend, brand, hair stylist not present in NZ, but of interest in regards to hair styling irons or related products and services. Again you may get quicker insight, by further refining your search with Deeper Web, i.e from further cloud searches within a cloud. Plus also any accompanying resource and metric information. Perhaps what could be included are forum reviews from established hair beauty web sites. But perhaps you are limited to how you search, i.e if your intent is to search for a brand (e.g. cloud nine, CHI), for pricing, or reviews, or whatever. Using Deeper web for searching about NZ Hair Straighteners, and with further targeted searches, should quickly display a goldmine of information to help at least increase your knowledge for more informed brand choices if you intend to purchase.

NZ GHD Product Search Tips

If you are searching online with the term NZ GHD and with related queries or qualifiers (e.g. best, latest, etc), you can use specific query related online search tools to quickly find and easily display related products. These may be new or previous iron models, kit sets, bulk packs, hair styling gels, sprays, creams, stores, related hair salons, celebrities, repair outlets, and specific accessories that relate to the GHD hair iron brand. Many searchers use Google, which conveniently has the Auto Suggest feature, a drop-down menu based primarily on past popular searches, including for local regions, e.g. New Zealand.

This of course can allow you to quickly select and click to get search results if applicable to you. You can then cycle if needed, through various letters added to your original query, to produce hopefully more relevant drop down lists to yield search results. For example adding p, might display purple, precious, or adding s might display stockists, suppliers, and of course straighteners.

NZ GHD Search query tips from Google

Refined Automatic Searching

Utilizing Google auto suggest, of course is the basis to quickly highlight and target relevant search results, and if signed in to Google, the added benefit of having search results instantly displayed. Hence you might see what you want from auto suggest, but what if you don't know exactly, or have forgotten, or possibly missing out on prominent related products in other regions? Or even in NZ? Sure you can search thoroughly, and you may find what you want, even if not including NZ in your query. This is where UberSuggest, a online keyword tool can help tremendously. It extracts suggestions from Google, and can display a alphabetical list of suggestions - meaning a easily viewable list of related GHD terms (or any other term really) that you may never know about.

Alphabetical Popular Suggested Queries

Hair iron products in automatic search engine

By choosing English language, tick expand, and txt if you want to download a results text file, then click suggest. This generates a lengthy list of suggested terms for NZ GHD. You can of course vary search queries  to extract even more available and relevant products, not currently easily displayed in Google auto suggest. Generally though more products seem to be available (or specifically visible) for other regions, or if a global (non region) singular search term such as GHD, Sedu, etc is searched.

Suggestions from UberSuggest for NZ GHD

Related products and services for GHD hair irons

Looking at the above results, Rodney Wayne appears, which I remember him late 70's - 80's I think. I'm sure I said hello briefly in his salon near Albert Park in Auckland City. Anyway, NZ repairs, Christchurch stockists (might be popular in CHCS), and cable leads appear. These might be helpful to further search or research in Google. However if you select just GHD (i.e. without NZ), it's more likely that more products, services, celebrities, locations, or basically popular terms will appear. In fact a "graduates training program" (keen to train?), Gold Series, Katy Perry, Leopard, Midnight Collection, "Obedience Cream", and many other terms appear. Thus you get to see what you don't know, which may be helpful and beneficial if you do further online research.

Image Search for Products

It might be useful to also use Image search, particularly for products to get a quick view of what they look like. Using the comprehensive Google Image search which displays images which are linked to their respective websites. Searching currently involves scrolling through pages or screen shots of images. Or try search cube a quick way to instantly display images in a cube, and can quickly rotate and highlight images to click to the associated web sites. The following image is for the Obedience Cream.

Easily and Instantly View Images with Search Cube

Cube Search Engine for hair cream

So using a comprehensive search variation tool, such as Ubersuggest, will yield related items for hair straighteners and other products, based on popular search queries. This of course, you can apply to your advantage to do further online research, if you intend to compare certain models, get an idea of global or local availability, view images, and importantly pricing if you intend to purchase.

Please Note: Be aware of fake GHD hair straighteners and their web sites, which I wrote on how to assess for Fake Hair Straightener Web Sites.

Price Comparison Web Sites for NZ Hair Straighteners

searching NZ Internet sites for Hair Irons
Search for NZ GHD Retailer
You can evaluate and compare the cost or price of Hair Straighteners in New Zealand, by entering relevant search terms in Google from your Laptop or Computer. Terms can include "NZ Hair Straightener Cost to Buy" or "Flattening Iron Prices in NZ", which are likely to display shopping comparison sites. This includes Priceme and Shopbot, but also Auction sites (e.g. Trademe or Sella), and various GHD related web sites (and Australian web sites), Salons and Distributors/Suppliers (e.g. Hair Products NZ, Hair Plus, etc). The comparison sites often display product styling images, price or price range, with a link reference to local or national retailers, e.g. Noel Leeming, Kmart and other stores. Laptop Girl Image by Michal Marcol at Free digital Photos Net.

NZ Local or Global

Evaluation of features relative to costs for hair styling units, can be done with research or based on prior knowledge of brands you know about. The thing is, you only get to see what's available on those above mentioned sites, without instantly knowing if their are other brands, or models/units within a brand. It seems restricted, or fragmented of what's on offer on NZ web sites, compared to dozens I have researched on region specific shopping web sites. It would be wise to contact/e-mail the vendors for specific details, actual availability and current costs, including shipping. But of course you could do further online search (and/or research), such as visiting global stores, e.g. Amazon which have a vast range of brands and models.

Or you could visit paid campaign search advertisements (i.e. Google Ads for Search) and NZ's Pricespy (http://pricespy.co.nz/) - a shopping comparison site, primarily known (I think), for computer hardware and electronic components by many NZ's. But buried within their vast database, is a category for hair styling flat irons. I could not easily find the category on the home page, so I used the search function, and then "back tracked" a little to the relevant sub-category. You are more likely to find pricing and suppliers for GHD straighteners from Google search ads and within the Pricespy website.

Pricespy - Search for Hair Straighteners

Enter Hair Straightener in the search function at the top R/H side and after clicking, product units should display, e.g. Remington Slimline, Silver Bullet, etc. Then click on one of those units, and then click on the Hair Styler tab which is adjacent to the Personal Hygiene tab. Then you should see a comprehensive and diverse listing (the best I believe so far for a Internet NZ listing) of branded irons and their specific models (Not sure if this will change). You can filter by price, types (e.g. curling irons), brands (including GHD units, Vidal Sasoon), retail or stockist stores, ceramic, and so on. There you have it - not only various brands, models, but importantly pricing, which you can instantly assess for those stylers. Conveniently grouped for you to evaluate and compare to make a informed decision, should you purchase, and also where to buy.

GHD, Remington, and Vidal Sasoon Purchase Price Ranges
(click for larger view)

Chart research for NZ prices for hair straighteners

Pricing Overview

I tried to demonstrate with a graph for a quick overview. The above chart is purely based on a "intuitive averaging" of cost only, per range, and not indexed against other factors (e.g. features, brand recognition, durability, price movement, etc). But I think -and you probably know of various price points for well known brands - you can easily see differences for the straighteners. Note the slope/gradient of the graphs, the more expensive irons are more tightly priced, with little variance per unit. This suggests premiums are paid for a well known branded product, i.e. GHD Irons. Remington's wider price range (higher variance in pricing) suggests a range of markets or consumers - e.g. from lower price conscious units to a little of a premium unit.

The box plot chart below better displays the variation in pricing, though from a limited set of price data. The plots indicate and display minimum, median, and maximum price, with the median price within the lower and upper quartile price range, i.e from 25% to 75% within the displayed box. This box area is known as the inter quartile range, or middle spread of 50 % statistical dispersion of data or prices for the irons.

For example, Vidal Sasoon has a wide dispersion of prices for it's units, with it's mid (i.e. median) price iron skewed to the lower 25 % of price units. GHD pricing has very little cost dispersion, with it's mid price model similar to other irons in it's current range.  Of course pricing may change, for example if more premium/featured irons are introduced in the future. Or if other brands enter in significant volume on the NZ market.

Google Search Ads - Look for a Hair Related Company that are Advertising

These sponsored ads often display on the right hand side or at the top of Google Search results. The ads are from Google Adwords, which advertisers (i.e. companies, e.g salons, wholesalers, retailers, and hair product stockists) display their items or services. So any NZ hair price related Google search term will trigger relevant ads, which may have pricing information on an associated website. New companies or those that want instant web traffic might have their ads visible, which once you click on will display their site or ad copy. You might see ads for companies that you know (e.g. Bond and Bond, Phillips, etc), but then you might see companies that you don't know, or have forgotten. This also saves the searcher (or potential buyer) spending time searching through the standard organic listings.

Though there are advanced search techniques that I wrote about earlier, e.g. searching online for pdf user manuals. Google Sponsor ads is another potential source to view pricing information, new companies, possibly new products, particularly if the companies are not referenced in Pricespy's database. Though you may find useful pricing information for new Hair Straighteners in NZ, and if you are keen and can afford to purchase you may want to sell your current styler on Trademe or eBay. If so, perhaps visit my selling tips for hair stylers to optimize for selling, and to help purchase a new Hair Straightener from a local retail shop.

Choosing a Hair Straightener Quickly Online

Choose suitable hair straightening iron for confident style
You may want to quickly select a hair straighter to review for purchasing, but within New Zealand online hair iron avenues, such as auction sites (e.g. Trademe, Sella), General Stores (Noel Lemmings, Bond and Bond), and web based importers and NZ online salons. Generally their appears to be the same brands in large supply. You probably know the styling iron makes and models - GHD, Remington, Vidal Sassoon, T3 Tourmaline, and many referenced as Salon professional hair styler models. I think we get to know what we know (e.g. from online or "real" user reviews), and if it's easily available within NZ then we go for it, if pricing, quality attributes, and of course if it's a well known brand or has good testimonials or reviews. Nothing wrong with buying locally within NZ, but you can of course purchase from reputable overseas online stores. This includes Amazon com and Folica com. Image of confident girl by jamison.

Instant Recommendation and Comparison of Styling irons

However, you may be able to quickly asses or review a hair straightener by quickly using an online recommendation Iron Tool at Hair Straightener Net (http://www.hairstraightening.net). Or perhaps instantly compare styling models and makes in chart form at UK Hair Dressers (http://www.ukhairdressers.com/). For the online tool, enter your preferences or attributes for hair texture, length, features (e.g. iron color, swivel cord, dual voltage, temperature control, etc), brand (optional), price range, and a factor range rating for overall features. The utility then displays, based on your input, recommended models. So it's quick in displaying styling units that might suit your hair and convenience for overall usability.

Hair Straightener Table for Quick Comparison of Features

Compare Hair Irons for instant features for NZ purchase

The chart table at UK Hair Dressers, displays a range of straightener models, with characteristics for instant comparison. Hence a ready made tabular form for quick comparative review, that includes (or not) features such as temperature control, ceramic plates, plate size (e.g. 10 mm to 26 mm plate width), sensor control, infra red technology, ion technology, and other features. Both those hair sites do quickly allow assessment for your hair selection, which I think is helpful. However you may have to do a bit more, such as research user reviews, or further online search and research (e.g. for a user guide manual or reading many of the numerous review web sites) to try get a more comprehensive overview, but only if you do not know much about the unit that is recommended or from what you select. Note: Image from hair straightener net.

More Hair Iron Brands - Where? - Not Here in NZ? Why Not?

Also some of the brands displayed, e.g. Sedu, Solia,  Andis, Babyliss, Coroliss, Hot Tools Pro, TurboIon, Jose Eber, may not be known in certain regions or users (i.e as in New Zealand), or not available locally in sufficient quantities. I certainly have not seen such brands as in our local stores, or the auction sites. Perhaps NZ professional hair stylists and salon owners would know those brands. Perhaps you may know of a local supplier or store that sells these other brands, then perhaps mention in the comments section below. As mentioned earlier, you can buy from overseas online, if you cannot find such a brand in NZ. Or perhaps search locally online and offline (e.g. priceme or the health and beauty section at trademe at http://www.priceme.co.nz/), or research for a near local equivalent, or do what what many of us do, since it's easier, though perhaps limited. Just go local.

But if you do what you have always done for local reviewing or buying (such as constantly browsing Trademe) ... and if that's satisfactory, you could ask yourself: do I need a brand of hair straightener that I don't know off, that is more popular or different, than what's easily available in New Zealand? Why should I? And why should you I would ask? You may not need to know about any other (popular) overseas brand, but for choosing a hair straightener, the Internet is there to do a bit of review beyond New Zealand web sites or stores. You might be surprised or not, to find other non existent brands in NZ. It's why we should research globally not just search locally. Can be beneficial don't you think?

How to Analyse a Web Site for Genuine and Fake Hair Straighteners

Hair iron NZ research for hair
You might enter and browse a hair iron web site that possibly sells counterfeit or fake hair flattening irons, at low prices compared to current genuine market prices. Prices seem to be good to be true, and common sense kicks in, so you think are the hair irons for real? You might think, or already know, that there are Internet sites selling branded bogus or irons. GHD and CHI irons are prime examples, as evidenced by the numerous “How to Spot a Fake Hair Straightener” Internet sites. Those sites are helpful, including New Zealand forum sites like Geekzone and Scam Busters and other forums like NZ Yahoo Answers. Generally such forums and sites describe to closely inspect features of suspect irons, check site's registration on the official GHD website, and to compare to genuine hair straightener units. Image of Girl by bizior from bizior photography

However there are on site and off site methods to analyze or research web sites, some based on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to evaluate what techniques and strategies are used to rank a site in the SERPS (Search Engine Result Pages). Some analysis methods are listed below, rather than specific attributes of hair irons, of which there are hundreds of sites for reference of counterfeit straightening tools. Though perhaps a little tedious performing website investigation, but you should be in a better position to gauge the authenticity of a web site's hair products for sale. However, I’ll leave that up to you, but instead I will analyze, and present results, for an "official GHD" supplier site, endorsed and registered by the official GHD website. You can of course evaluate NZ internet sites, to try gain a deeper insight of  techniques, to assess whether if a website is genuine, in the sense that it represents a endorsed real hair straightener.

Hair Straightener Web Site Analysis

Methods for web site analysis can include -

* Domain Registration Details (Extracting Contact Info)
* Back Link or In Bound Link Analysis (Link signal strength: - diversity and density of links, including authoritative and relevant internal/external link source locations and their "anchor text" variations for relevance)
* Keyword and Meta Description Tag Analysis (If relevant brands of related items, e.g. hair gels, lotions, etc, are described, and their relative description densities)
* Site Architecture and Usability. For example, whether if the site is streamlined for easy navigation, and too "bold and colorful", and if the site contains related real branded products, and authoritative resource links to genuine hair care web sites. Company logo's might be present and linked to relevant and genuine hair sites. Also as I have seen, if poor grammar, and spelling mistakes are present.
* Content Checking (If professional and interpretable, employing "spinner" regenerated text, and site scraping/duplication methods). In other words there could be similar fake sites, with similar content.
* Advanced Google search operators for a hair iron's web site's presence and products. Are they in local business directories? Mentioned or recommended in forums, online salons, beauty review sites, and social sites like Face Book?
* Combination of the above using a few Firefox SEO Add-ons and online tools
* Image Analysis (Comparison techniques and original source evaluation, using specialty image search engines). Also Are their local NZ images of people on the website?
* Your “Common Sense” web site and product scrutiny, using instinct, logic, and knowledge comparison with established authoritative sites

Videos on How to Spot a Fake GHD

Tips for Assessing a CounterfeitComparing a Genuine GHD

I will concentrate on Domain Registration for now, and perhaps describe and apply the other methods for future articles. OK lets analyze - Website publishers or owners generally have to register their sites for their URL, or domain name if available, which often include contact details, including importantly the Country of registration. You can easily find such details by using an online tool, often called a “Whois” Domain Look Up tool. Google search for - Best Whois - there should be hundreds. Some are more informative, and easier to use than others, i.e. may only produce limited results or require a little editing of the URL (e.g. removing www or adding .uk or .nz, etc). But just search further for any contact details that are produced after a "look up" to find further details. Or use another Whois research tool. Or maybe register with the Whois site to possibly get additional search and research benefits.

Applying Whois Domain Look Up for Hair Iron Web sites

I use Domain Tools Com (http://whois.domaintools.com/) and Whois.net (http://www.whois.net/). Maybe a few others, but those two have been useful. I will test, as noted earlier, an online retailer approved by GHD (http://www.ghdhair.com/). The legitimate site is Beauty Expert (www.beautyexpert.co.uk), and when entered at Domain Tools Com the following is produced…

 Domain Details For Beauty Expert
(Click for larger view)

Hair Straightener NZ web site for UK research

Because the address is listed, you can use Google Search, which displays a Google Map and "Place Page" for which you can get further details. This may include phone numbers, contact link, location images, user generated maps, and related information - including competitor sites, related industry listings, Google ads, and user reviews. This depends if the business has claimed their place page and optimized their page to rank in the serps. You could probably use other Whois sites for additional details, but the details retrieved from my test seems suitable.

Google Map and Details for Beauty Expert

Hair irons NZ Domain name UK research

Thus you can get full details, by domain searching for hair irons, and by searching a little deeper. This approach, which displays the country of origin for the domain or URL, and company contact details, possibly indicating whether or not if the web site is legitimate for genuine Hair Straighteners. Perhaps you can contact for more information. Now as I mentioned earlier, I chose a legitimate site, and I have previously found, I believe suspect hair iron sites using domain look ups. You should be able to as well, to help make a informed judgment from a sites server location. Try a look up for any hair iron web site: Start by a Google search - GHD Hair Straighteners NZ...

Hair Straighteners Rating Research Proposal

Hair Straightening Irons are globally popular, and with it’s hair straightening and curling usefulness from various brands and models, has resulted in thousands of user online text based reviews, images, and videos. This suggests that many users have tested, compared, and researched beforehand to ultimately select their particular straightener. They might have been influenced from these online reviews, possibly including their own personal experience. Because even if comparing similar looking hair straighteners, but from different brands, it might largely hinge on personal choice. Selection choice such as pricing, certain iron’s features, extra’s such as training videos, discounts at the local salon, inclusion of several accessories and so on, might perceive that brand to be the one to purchase.

Reason for a Hair Straightener’s Rating Factor

With so many hair straightener brands and models, like so many cars or mobile phones, personal choice would be a determining factor, if taking the time to research properly for selection. What would help if there were a rating factor, based on qualitative and recognized test procedure(s). Maybe based on ISO test procedures and accreditation, or some authoritative and certified testing agency. Possibly hair straightener manufacture’s are performing accredited test procedures, and documenting results, but nothing has been published of significance, including online I believe.

There is no mention of any unit or rating factor from any online reviews on the Internet. Remember the hair iron, at its core, is basically a simple hand held heating unit. Because they are popular, possibly essential, they may one day if not already, become a commodity. If so, then perhaps having a “qualitative reference factor” could help elevate a hair iron’s “rank” - useful for comparative evaluations. Currently, and understandably, it’s all about (or it seems), about features - you know the ones - tourmaline plate technology, heat up times, auto switch off, universal voltage, floating plates, and so on.

Chart of Hair Straightener Reviews and a Rating Factor

Hair Straightener rating and Review Comparison
Determining and Qualifying a Rating Factor

There are hair straightener patents online, but generally relate to general description and descriptive application. So a feature rating or factor unit, possibly standardized globally, could help rank a hair iron’s overall status, and provide meaningful comparison against other straighteners. Much like a light bulb’s expectancy (in hours -hrs), rechargeable batteries (charge capacity - mAh), or a new car engine power rating - another global popular item (e.g. power or torque output, - e.g. Nm/3000 revs), or photo file (pixel count - px).

Possibly an iron’s separate features could be assessed, somehow calculated mathematically, and then combined to yield an overall qualitative numerical factor. Such a factor then could be indexed or compared against the iron’s cost, and possibly produce a useful, and eventually authoritative comparative costing database, including easy chart analysis. If research is being scientifically done, then perhaps it’s time that the results be combined and calculated to produce an overall qualitative rating factor, which may help buyers of hair straighteners better select a unit for their hair.

Trademe NZ Hair Straighteners Selling Tips

Selling Hair Straighteners on New Zealand's Trademe auction or perhaps eBay, is generally an easy online avenue to sell, to try profit from a sale or successful auction. However including more information for your Hair Iron, might increase buyers interest to achieve a faster and more informed sale. Providing more information might be important when auctioning a used unit, since their seems to be so many of them, e.g. the earlier Remington Hair Straighteners. I have seen used irons auctioned with little useful description, unsightly images, i.e. messily strewn on a floor, often without much visitor views, but if it sells then that's OK. Maybe the Hair Unit Model is in demand, is cheap, useful for training purposes, or as a back up Iron for hair styling.

Descriptive and Specification Tips

But to make your auction appealing to buyers, assuming you want to, perhaps include features and functions of your Hair Straightener, in addition to applying relevant auction title, images, and general optimization tips. This I explain in more detail in my Trademe NZ Selling Tips blog. You might notice that bulk Trademe Sellers generally include a comprehensive description and sales piece for brand new items, including Hair Flattening Irons. Perhaps you can as well, with a little more work, but if you want to increase the chances of a sale...then for a used Hair Unit try (as in do it) these tips...

- Basic description of the Straightener, brand name, colours, size (e.g. if a mini unit), model number (so bidders can research online if unknown/unfamiliar), it's history if known (e.g. it's age, if used daily), reasons for selling (e.g. upgraded, no longer used), and general appearance (e.g. worn plates, scratches, color fade, etc)
- Quality attributes - What you believe (from experience) or reviews, that makes the iron somewhat unique or practical for good performance. Though quality could mean different things, but one being fitness for purpose. Mention of the brand name might be enough for some; Functional features could be another - often related to it's settings and range of specifications or features, design and ergonomics could be another feature to mention.
- Perhaps reference online user reviews (e.g. at amazon.com or folica.com) if possible and perhaps include testimonials.
- Describe at least some of it's features and specifications. If you don't know what they are, browse web sites, the user guide book, or try search for a online user guide (My tips for internet search for PDF user guides).

Examples of specifications include -

* Rapid heat up time of the Tourmaline plates within a few seconds
* Sleep or Power Off mode after 30 minutes of inactivity
* Easy adjustable Temperature for efficient heat control for maximum performance
* Universal Voltage for Overseas use
* Include physical attributes, e.g. overall dimensions, plate length and width, weight, design, and shape
* And other useful features or specifications, e.g. if wet and dry, steam conditioning, etc

Hair Straightener Possible Segmented Features

Hair Straightener Properites for Selling on Trademe new Zealand
Sure, a used and perhaps basic Hair Straightener, may no longer serve one's need, but perhaps may serve another person's needs. Particularly for those that are new to hair styling, or affordability reasons, may want to buy a used Iron. Such buyers, might have a better insight, more trust, and thus more likely to bid or purchase, if you provide relevant, comprehensive or focused information to install confidence for a first time buyer.

How to Use With Steam

- Might require a pumping action by opening and closing the iron for it's first use, or if not used for a while
- After switching on the steam function, then can select required (or desired) steam out put, then can straighten your hair, with the retractable combs to help untangle any hair
- However, you may want to try alternating between no steam and with steam, by toggling the switches. But also use the variable temperature settings, depending on hair type to achieve desired hair results.
- Probably best to start from the low temperature settings to gradually increase to find the overall settings for the Vidal Goddess Hair Unit.

Though the steam mist functions to help condition or smooths the hair evenly, the water container may require regular top ups during use. However, shininess, sleekness, and softness might be ideal for those that want to achieve that, but of course their are other irons, e.g. GHD, perhaps Sedu, that can achieve that, with proper use as well. But the Goddess iron with it's steam process can produce shininess during styling, and seems ideal for thick and curly hair, as noted by users online.

How to Search Online for Hair Straightener PDF User Manuals

Thinking about How to Search for a online internet hair iron user guide in New ZealandKnowing how and where to search for a Hair flattening Iron or Straightener user guide manual on the Internet Online can reduce the time in implementing search procedures. Also you may be able to find useful information, sometimes from the manufacturer, for your particular hair styling iron. Though hair irons are generally simple beauty instruments, but having it's manual may be helpful, for informative and comparative purposes. Most manuals, including "official" brand name manuals are produced as a PDF file - i.e. a Portable Document Format. Image of Girl by vitiyaa.

Reasons for a User Guide Reference

* Information - You may want specific features to list as a selling point, say on on online auction such as New Zealand's Trademe. Or to compare with similar iron models or other brands. Maybe you are not familiar with an overseas brand, having specific features (e.g. voltage settings, ideal use settings, etc) will make you become more aware.
* Contacts - Manuals often include local and worldwide authorized agencies, reference model codes, email and url web addresses for any warranty issues
* Familiarization - User Guides may list additional digital settings, e.g. for heat times, duration,(e.g. for electronic models) or maintenance and general care. Sometimes diagrams, images, within a manual can help.
* Safety - Related manuals such as health and safety, similar products (e.g. curling irons) may be useful. I think Conair seems to have plenty of such PDF user guides for reference.

Using Google to Search for an Online Hair Iron PDF Manual

Often many Internet searchers, search using informational queries, perhaps with a keyword (e.g. a brand name) to try get a general overview what's available online. As mentioned in my article on How to search online for the "best" hair iron, we can employ those tactics and others, to quickly target (i.e. find) a user guide manual for a hair iron. So if we do a generic but branded search in Google such as -

Entering this search query: Hair user PDF manual for CHI Straightener Iron

Produces these CHI Search Results (Click for larger view)

Search results for CHI PDF User Manual
But the search results do not show any reference to a CHI PDF manual on page 1, but display links to popular or authoritative sites: article sites - e.g. Hub pages, Article Dash Board, Squidoo, Youtube, and a few other I assume are popular site links. Oddly a PDF link does appear at the bottom, but to the Conair domain site (Perhaps not so odd - as they do have plenty of PDF files on the Internet - Hence I think Google would rank their site, as a "equivalent" or related reference, on the first page for this particular search).

This might suggest either CHI have no user guides PDF files online, or too few to be listed high in the search results. Of course you could use a range of related generic, synonyms, and brand search terms to hopefully find that CHI PDF file, and perhaps navigate through pages of results - and you probably will find a CHI PDF hair iron related file site, due to the massive search database of Google. But a better way, particularly for not well Google ranked searched iron terms (i.e. brands), is to use a few advanced search operators, either in isolation or perhaps in combination. However, I think I will only demonstrate one advanced operator, as I believe it found the most targeted PDF information quickly - The URL command coupled with the "plus" sign.

Advanced Google CHI Hair Iron Search: Using URL and the "+" (i.e. plus)

How to search online for hair straightener user guide pdf manualsPopular or established online hair iron sites, are likely to reside their PDF user guide files, on a sub domain - which is associated with a url name - often long - not usually visible in Google results. Thus it is more effective to search with the url operator (as opposed to many other operators), and to target it better with the + sign, (and it's search term or query) which sometimes help, particularly if their are dozens of sub domains, which may have dozens of other PDF files - which may or not be relevant to our search query.

So let's re-search our CHI query by entering the following url operator search terms

Entering this search query: inurl:pdf hair user manual +iron +CHI

Produces these CHI Search Results

NZ Hair Straightener using advanced Google inurl Search
The first result appears to be the most relevant, and possibly the only "Official" PDF file - perhaps the user guide manual, and is described as the CHI Hair Ceramic Styling Iron. The displayed URL result also mentions Farouk Systems, which is the manufacturer of CHI hair irons. Their are other references to CHI - but related (i.e. Farouk) url's and authority sites - e.g. YouTube and Amazon. For comparison, if we replace +CHI with +Conair in the above search term for Google searching, their are many PDF files (i.e. url's with Conair PDF) that are displayed, including country specific URL domains. Possibly Conair have a wider range of related products and therefore produced more PDF user guides. This of course, is beneficial to hair iron users worldwide.

You may need to open to read, to assess whether if the manual documents are relevant to your search, or you could add more + search terms (e.g. model number) to laser target a PDF user guide - assuming it exists online. Hence using a url specific term should instantly display a PDF, if it exists. So searching with inurl: pdf manual (or user guide, etc) +iron (or straightener or styler) +brand name +model number +(other keywords) should hopefully retrieve you hair straightener's user guide manual or similar. There is also filetype:pdf  and again the inurl:pdf operators that also displays documents.

Update - The + operator has now been dropped by Google (since it may confuse with Google's + social platform (https://plus.google.com) for any + searches). So instead use quotes around your search query, e.g. "GHD flattening iron".

Alternative Online PDF Resources for Hair Straighteners

So far, we have used Google search queries for specific hair irons, but there are also many online PDF manual resource sites. You can search for PDF manual storage web sites, perhaps in a similar manner as described above. One site is manuals online (http://www.manualsonline.com/). The site has plenty of manuals, and you can search for a hair styler iron by model number or brand, or from the health and beauty category - then personal care - then see all - then scroll down to the styling iron link, or hair care, or hair dryer manual links if you want. If you are lucky, you may find a useful user guide. You can also store the file on a "virtual" filing cabinet on their site, join a community and with other features if you sign up. It's a nice streamlined easily navigable site.

Manuals Online - Maybe Find a Hair Iron User Guide

PDF user guide manuals online for hair iron, straightener, and related products
PDF User Guide Search Engine - Docjax

Docjax is a PDF, Word Doc, Power Point, and Excel search engine. It's quite an attractive easy to navigate search engine to quickly find PDF user, promotional, safety and other guides that may be relevant to your hair iron. I found a few Conair PDF safety documents, from Conair, but of course you might also retrieve documents from personal users. You may have to do a bit of searching, or just add com to your search - e.g. Conair com, of which I found over 7,000 PDF files.

DocJax PDF Search Engine - May find your Iron's Documents

Docjax PDF search engine for hair straightening iron
Conair Safety PDF Document from Docjax

Conair hair iron safety manual in PDF format
Scribd (http://www.scribd.com/) and Other Shared Document Sites

This is a document sharing site, supporting various formats (e.g. PDF, Doc, Docx, ppt, and many others) embedded in web pages using the "iPaper" format. I found a few Conair, GHD, CHI guides - some from hair care sites, and I think from personal users. Some documents from DocJax, I think when viewed, linked to Scribd. Other document sites, to try find business or brand name hair iron guides include docstoc (http://www.docstoc.com/s), issuu (http://issuu.com/), and wePapers (http://www.wepapers.com/). But their are thousands of documents, so need to try search with many optimized terms as possible.

Online Search for Hair Straightener guides - PDF Document Availability

Using the above search techniques and online resources hopefully might find relevant user guides. I have found many other PDF's by also from user forum links, after using advanced Google search terms with forums as a keyword. Currently it appears that many PDF hair iron documents, as are reviews, related hair iron product sites, are scattered through a variety of, but useful online avenues. Such diversity may make it difficult initially for inexperienced searchers to try to quickly find a specific hair straightening user guide. Maybe an authority online hair iron or seller site, may initiate a central database of user manuals - thus making a easier task for searchers that want to search online for a specific hair iron PDF manual.

Hair Straightener GHD and CHI Reviews: Texts Analysis of Users

NZ Hair irons - review and research online any reviewsI performed a comparative analysis of 1" GHD and CHI flattening irons based on summarizing online user reviews. You can perhaps compare any two products, by combining several user reviews from relevant or authoritative forums or web sites. Consider this: Perhaps you have read user reviews of hair straighteners or flattening irons, to try get an overall impression of a particular brand or model. You may have comprehensively navigated various hair style or product seller internet sites, review sites, personal blogs, forums, and auction sites, to try get at least a feel for a preferred hair iron unit. In addition, you may have also performed advanced search parameters for best hair straighteners, and global insight trend analysis, listening to family and friends, visited professional salons and local stores, read local fashion newspapers and magazines and more. Image of Thinking by yoshiaka at sxc.

Then you find a hair iron (or two), that you may like, or hope to like, and have come across several reviews at a popular or authoritative online web site. But then their are hundreds of reviews, and if comparing a few flattening irons, hundreds more reviews, and that's only from one internet site. So how can you easily extract an overall rating, or impression?

Analyzing Hair Straightener Reviews - What's the Overall Thought? or Feeling?

You may be instantly able to intuitively get an overall impression or common theme by reading and comparing a few reviews. But let's say you are prepared to spend a few hundred dollars from a reputable trusted hair care or auction web site, and you do want to read at least dozens of reviews to try grasp an overall impression for your selected flattening irons. Such focused or specific extracted information may well influence your decision to purchase a hair unit - or not.

One way, is to review the reviews to try extract what the common theme, intent, or even perceived emotion within the reviews. Such text retrieval can be achieved with text based utilities to highlight or extract frequent qualifiers or descriptor text for easy comparison. Thus keyword or text mining tools are ideal for instantly displaying frequent key words or phrases, often descriptive qualifiers or adjectives for your selected (or soon to be) flattening iron. Further you may be able to get an idea of the intent of users, their overall feelings, from reoccurring key words about a hair iron from those reviews.

Online Text Mining Utilities: Discover Focused Key Terms for Hair Straighteners

I used three search and text mining tools: Search Cloudlet a Firefox add-on (which I described for best hair iron online search tips - Please refer to that best search tips article for applying search "clouds"for hair search analysis), Wordle - a text "cloud" generator of varying text sizes depending on frequency), and Textalyser - a comprehensive statistical text analyzer that generates meaningful word out puts - e.g. phrase frequencies, top words, densities, word count, sentence count, and much more. They are all simple to use, but significantly, can instantly produce frequently used and easily visible word patterns related to "text mining" techniques to help you get a more focused overview for numerous hair iron reviews.

Conducting Review Analysis of GHD vs CHI

Let's research user reviews for two similar size and shape hair straighteners - The 1" GHD Classic Styler Ceramic Hair Straightener and The CHI 1"Ceramic Flat Iron. Using the Wordle dialog box, I copied about three sets of 20 reviews from Folica com for those irons and pasted them separately in the Wordle dialog box, after clicking the link "create your own" from their home page. Note also - their are thousands of reviews for individual hair irons, of which a text mining tool might be invaluable.

I made sure that there were a roughly equivalent number of text per page - which was about 800 words for one A4 page. Below are "cloudlets" for only one A4 page - but the others were similar in displayed output. But please note, the intention here is to demonstrate any effectiveness in comparison with word mining utilities between the hair irons, rather than to explicitly imply that one iron is better than the other.

GHD Classic Styler Ceramic Wordle Cloud

GHD compiled reviews of top keywords
CHI 1" Ceramic Wordle Cloud

CHI compiled reviews of top keywords
Review Analysis - Any Significant Patterns?

* The GHD term stands out in it's cloud more than once, more so than CHI in it's cloud. It might mean that users have more affinity for that name, as a brand, as hence include the term GHD more often in their reviews. Note also that the term straightener, as is iron are noticeable, perhaps meaning that those terms be rightfully included in the reviews as both terms are suited together. However the CHI cloud only has reference to Iron. Does this mean that GHD is the unit worthy of mention to include both terms? (After all it might be perceived better for about hair styling)
* Though both irons have similar qualifiers (e.g. "wonderful", amazing", "best", "love"), it seems that GHD qualifiers are more frequent and are a bit more superlative. Does this mean GHD is more worthy of such terms? Or perhaps reviewers are overstating it's qualities? One way is to analyze more reviews to try get a more representative and statistically meaningful results or patterns.
* There seems to be more nouns for CHI cloud, and are a bit diverse, whereas the GHD cloud terms are more quality related and focused (in my view). CHI has terms that seem to relate to getting or purchasing (e.g. "Got", "Get", "Product", "Works" and "Price") it as a product, rather than mentioning features about the product.
* There are no negative terms relating to GHD, but there is for CHI - but again more research may be required.
* Well - what do you think? Which aggregated review analysis points to the straightener that you would prefer to purchase? Lets do a bit more analysis with what phrases are more favorable, by using the textalyser tool...

In-depth Text Analysis of Hair Straightener Reviews

Here are some charts relating to top words, and three word phrases for both the same user reviews, for the same two hair straighteners. There are many other statistical text results that can generate meaningful aggregate summaries, from the reviews in aggregate, from their web site. Visit the textalyser site and paste in your reviews in their dialog box, and then click on analyze the text to produce a stack of text statistics. Note you may have to correct spelling mistakes and grammar errors beforehand from the reviews.

GHD Classic Styler Ceramic Top Words

GHD Top words for hair iron reviewsCHI 1" Ceramic Top Words

CHI hair iron top words from reviewsThe tabled hair iron results, for top words are similar to the above cloud results. It appears that GHD has better qualifiers, e.g. "love" and "best", and CHI also refers to product and price - which were also evident in the CHI cloud above. Below are charts (truncated - as the tables were too long), for top 3 phrase terms for the same hair irons.

3 Word Phrases for GHD Styler Hair Iron

Top phrases for GHD Reviews
3 Word Phrases for CHI Flat Iron
Top phrases for CHI Hair Iron ReviewsAgain, it appears that GHD has more favorable 3 word phrases, relating to qualitative attributes (e.g. "recommend", "best", "amazing"), and CHI seem to refer to passive type terms, without signifying much in relation to it's iron. Results were similar for 2 word phrases, and even for 4 word phrases.

Review Summary

So if you have the time and inclination, then try text extraction or mining tools. This can be important, particularly for comprehensive reviews, and collation of hundreds of reviews for hair irons, if you seriously intend to purchase a hair iron. You can weed out insightful concepts, and with careful analysis be in a much better position to select a hair straightener that appeals to you. Reviews help, but more so if you can do a bulk analysis to garner relevant information, knowledge, and satisfaction, to your advantage, before deciding to purchase a hair iron of your preferred choice.

Remington Straightini Mini Styler

Girls with hair styles after styling their hair with the Straightini Mini StylerIf you are looking for a cute, shiny, and small hair iron, then perhaps the Remington Straightini Mini Styler might suit your or someone's hair (e.g. as a gift or present for a young family member, or someone with short hair) needs. Because of it's small form it may be useful as a spare or secondary straightening or curling iron, for applying hair touch ups when on the move. Ideally it appears to be suitable for short thin hair - which might suit men as well, and therefore, without difficulty can straighten fringes, short to medium thin hair strands, short curls, and simple touch ups. Smaller size can sometimes mean easier use and convenience in some situations, and it's trying to find those uses - often with trial and error. Image of Girls by mckenna71.

Remington Straightini Features

* Relatively quick heat up - 30 seconds to about 200 degrees.
* Global Voltage - 120V to 240 V (Don't forget power adapters for different countries)
* Ceramic coated plates (Nice smooth continuous shine to your hair)
* Most have a 2 year warranty (Peace of mind and sign of durability)
* Light On indicator
* Switches to easily turn on and off
* Cute pink colour and black colour generally available

Mini Pink Remington hair iron for reviewSure, you are likely to compare with your regular full size straightener, and detect noticeable differences, but perhaps "mini" does have it's benefits - primarily related to the Straightini's diminutive size. But depends on the scenario, to how it's most useful. As with most mini items, their are always going to be loss of features or functions when compared to their full sized models. But let's not forget advantages, consider these scenarios....

* You have straightened or styled your hair with your main iron, but want to bring your mini Remington along to a function, for those quick touch ups or to retain part of your original styling appearance; Sort of a must have back up hair applicator to remain in check with your hair.
* Practice on your younger sister, niece, cousin, so as to introduce them to the benefits of a hair iron unit; get them to try it themselves (with supervision of course), as wouldn't a younger family member want to aspire to a transformed hair style? - Like yours after after applying a iron's styling use?
* If on vacation or traveling, you may not feel comfortable carrying your main and more expensive straightener, in case it gets lost, misplaced or stolen. But with this model, priced around $25, any worries might be substantially reduced. It's on hand - maybe in your bag, and therefore easy to use, depending on the nature of your hair and required style.
* Perhaps a nice, economical gift to introduce to someone to the world of hair styling, if suitable, so that person can train themselves, and get used to transforming their hair, before purchasing a more expensive larger brand new hair iron.
* Because of it's lighter weight and size, the mini styler might be suitable for those that suffer from hand pains - such as mild wrist arthritis, carpal tunnel, or related symptoms. Perhaps less of a strain on arm and wrist movement during styling.
* Perhaps handy to switch or alternate between using a larger iron, when styling longer or thicker hair, which might become a bit tiring. You might find, with practice, when the mini styler can complement your main style as a helpful complement.

Having a mini styler, even as a convenience factor, in times of such use (e.g. when out away from home or for practical touch ups), could make the Straightini Mini Styler a suitable choice to retain your hair's original style or shape. In New Zealand, stores such as Bond and Bond, Noel Leemings, and your local hair salon should have them for purchase. Light weight - ease of use - form factor - and small size of "mini" - all count in certain situations - and practical for healthy quick hair styling.

Hair Straightener Global Trends

Global search for hair straighteners from NZIf you want to find hair straightener trends, either locally or globally, within a time frame, then try Google Insights for Search. As long as their is sufficient search data queries in the database, you may be able to find popular hair straighteners brands, related search queries, "rising" searches, popular related news items, regional data per country, and other meaningful statistical data. You can also enter other search queries, for example brand names such as GHD or CHI flat irons to try retrieve relevant data for evaluation. Image of global Search by topfer.

Of course you could perform standard or advanced searches on the internet using Google and filter out targeted information of interest about hair irons. This is explained in my article about trying to get a "snapshot" of specific current information for the best hair straighteners, using advanced search queries and Google's Wonder Wheel and other techniques. Whereas using Google Insights produces more of an overall trend based on sufficient historical searches (up to about 6 years as of now). For example you can compare New Zealand (NZ), United Kingdom (UK) popular search queries for hair iron global trends with those of the United States (USA) or Canada (Ca).

Data trend information could quickly help in determining overseas (e.g. relative to NZ) popular hair irons and related products, to consider for purchasing. Or perhaps quickly find popular "trendy" brands that you may not have known existed. Then perform a regular Google search on that product and related results to get further information from relevant websites - such as user reviews, local suppliers, auction sites, forums, and so on. I did some searches to find out what brand of hair iron is popular (as based on Google Search database) in Google Insights to reveal the following...

Search trend chart data evaluation for flat hair irons

From Google Insights and entering the term flat hair irons for worldwide search, and time span of 2004 to 2010 (present) some interesting charts are presented: (Click charts below to expand for better view)

Flat hair irons has regional interest in USA (all regions) and Canada - but virtually absent in other regions (on a large scale)

Hair Straighteners NZ trend chart against USA CHI Flat Irons
This table indicated related terms and "rising searches" for the same search query Flat hair irons

Hair Straighteners NZ trend chart against USA CHI Flat Irons
Google Insight trend analysis indicates that CHI flat hair iron (even though CHI was not entered in the search query) is popular in USA and Canada. Not surprising perhaps, as CHI is made in USA, and probably heavily marketed (including online) country wide. Note that the top search results are "tightly" related to my original query Flat hair irons, but still include CHI and no other brand. Thus can search further either per region to try find other trends terms or information if interested, or just do a standard Google search to find relevant information relating to the CHI brand. You may find favorable CHI hair straightener reviews, newly released iron flattening CHI models, recommended styling products for CHI, price competition and specials at various web sites, since CHI displays exclusively (without further refinement) on Google Insights trend data.

Search trend chart data evaluation for hair straighteners

But interestingly if we use a similar search term such as hair straighteners, the following charts indicate quite different trends from above (again click on charts for clearer details)

Hair Straightener trends on Google Insights shows New Zealand with large number of searchers
and the related chart of "rising searches and top searches for hair straighteners as a search term...

GHD trend chart from Google Insights for hair straightener search in New Zealand
Google Insights trend analysis indicates that the GHD hair straightener is popular for the search term hair straighteners (and not CHI for that same search term). Also the country of New Zealand has the highest number of searchers, followed closely by the United Kingdom and Australia. There is however a few search queries (i.e. user interest) from USA and Canada. But GHD related searches feature prominently in the results, but with a "rising" interest in CHI and pink hair straighteners, and a few other related queries. Again with these results, one can search further on standard Google Search to gather more information, i.e. reviews, pricing, local suppliers and so on.

Trend Plot Graph for Hair Straighteners

Here is another chart from the same search query showing a trend graph from 2004 to 2010, but highlighting major news items relating to hair straighteners. Oddly their were no such news items displayed for the search term Flat hair irons.

Hair Straightener Flat Iron Trend Search Chart
Summary of Trends in Hair Straighteners and Flat Hair Irons
How does having this hair iron global trend data help? Well it indicates...

* That you need equivalent search terms, phrases, or synonyms when searching for a ideal or relevant hair straightener, hair iron, flat iron, or other related items. You may want to add qualifiers - e.g. "Best", "Top" "Popular" to various search terms to try get a diverse range of data from a Google Insights and Standard Google Search.
* Quickly find by country, region, and time line, a "long term" popular hair flattening iron - the wider the reach (i.e. the more global that product), then the more likely the popularity (or "otherwise") of that hair straightener.
* Also can find other hair iron brands (or anything really), and hair care products, by refining your search queries and options within the Google Insight interface - in conjunction with other search optimization relevancy techniques such as described at my post Online Search Tips for Best Hair Straighteners.
*You can get quite granular or specific results by clicking on the results themselves within the links at Google Insights. That is, you can drill down to sub regions and other categories if of interest to you about hair straighteners.
* Retrieve data from the displayed global map, by clicking about, and dragging the "time line" results.
* That you could perform further analysis stemming from the two queries that I did. For example why does CHI (and not GHD) show up for one search term and not the other? Are both hair irons equally popular? Why on one side of the world and not the other based on search trends? And why for so long? Have New Zealand residents being targeted (perhaps unknowingly) for GHD irons and not CHI? Or USA residents (state dependent) been targeted for only CHI irons? or What? Does trends really mean anything if premium prices are concerned?(which may involve it's own trend analysis) and so on...

Their are probably other scenarios to utilize hair straightener global data from Google Insights, as their are other Google search or keyword tools in addition to many other internet query search tools, news items, user reviews, forum interaction, and so on. But depending how deep you want to analyze Google trend and search results, you would benefit by getting at least a better insight globally for hair straighteners. For example, armed with trend and search knowledge, you may be a bit wiser for purchasing a specific hair iron brand based on specific internet trend results that you have retrieved. Knowledge from research helps, particularly to save on your first hair flattening iron purchase.
